As citizens of our planet, we see a pressing need for change. One fundamental aspect of our lives is the need for nourishment, both for ourselves and our families. Ensuring proper nutrition is crucial for the growth and development of children, as well as maintaining a well-balanced standard of living for adults. Unfortunately, some families struggle to provide their children with food of quality, either due to financial constraints or the time constraints of our fast-paced lifestyles.
Remarkably, while millions of people go hungry and malnourished in the US every day, even more meals are being wasted by restaurants and households. To solve this paradox we have developed a service with the potential to connect available food resources with those who are in need. Reflecting on my own experiences, I recall being one of those hungry teenagers long ago, with little means to afford a meal after school. Bedtime often arrived with an empty stomach. If an App like the one we've created had existed back then, I would have greatly benefited from it. Inspired by this personal journey, we have built this App to bridge the gap between surplus food and individuals facing food insecurity.
Food waste is an urgent global issue that requires the collective effort of every individual. It's crucial to understand that decomposing food generates methane gas, which is 26 times more harmful to the ozone layer than CO2 emissions. Shockingly, the United States alone discards 4O% of its food supply annually, equivalent to filling up 73O football stadiums. Simultaneously, around 49 million people live in "food insecure households" where they lack access to high-quality and nutritious meals for themselves and their families.
Same for You® is dedicated to tackling these challenges faced by our country and the world. By joining forces with you, we can make a real difference in harmonizing this discord. It's important to recognize that every single meal or morsel counts towards reducing food waste and improving the lives of those in need. Together, we have the power to make a positive impact on our environment and society. It is our collective responsibility to combat food waste, hunger and climate change. Let's come together, take action, and make a difference one meal at a time.
